Why is pet dental health important?

Proper dental health is crucial for pets because it directly impacts their overall well-being and quality of life. Dental issues such as plaque buildup, tartar, and periodontal disease can lead to pain, tooth loss, and infections that may spread to vital organs like the heart and kidneys. Regular dental cleanings and checkups help prevent these problems, ensuring that pets maintain healthy teeth and gums. Additionally, good oral hygiene can prevent bad breath, making pet interactions more pleasant for both pets and their owners. By prioritizing dental care, pet owners can enhance their pets' health, happiness, and longevity.

How to prepare your pet for a dental

Preparing your pet for a dental cleaning appointment is essential for their comfort and safety. Here are some steps you can take to get your pet ready:

  1. Schedule an Appointment: Contact your veterinarian to schedule a dental cleaning appointment. Make sure you choose a time when you can be present to drop off and pick up your pet.
  2. Pre-Appointment Check-up: Before the dental cleaning, your veterinarian may want to conduct a general health check-up to ensure your pet is fit for anesthesia, which is often used during dental procedures.
  3. Fasting: Your vet will likely advise you to withhold food for a certain period before the appointment. This is typically done to prevent aspiration during anesthesia. Follow their instructions carefully regarding when to stop feeding your pet.
  4. Water: It's usually okay to allow your pet access to water until shortly before the appointment, but check with your vet to be sure.
  5. Exercise: Give your pet some exercise before the appointment to help them relax. A tired pet may be calmer during the process.
  6. Comfort Items: Bring along any comfort items your pet may need, such as their favorite blanket or toy, to help them feel more at ease in the unfamiliar environment.
  7. Transportation: Ensure you have a secure carrier or leash for transporting your pet to and from the appointment safely.
  8. Anxiety Management: If your pet tends to get anxious during vet visits, consider using calming aids recommended by your vet, such as pheromone sprays or calming supplements.
  9. Medical History: Be prepared to provide your vet with your pet's complete medical history, including any previous dental issues or procedures.
  10. Follow Post-Procedure Instructions: After the dental cleaning, your vet will provide instructions for post-procedure care, such as feeding instructions, medication administration, and how to monitor your pet's recovery. Follow these instructions closely to ensure a smooth recovery process.

By following these steps, you can help prepare your pet for their dental cleaning appointment and ensure they receive the best possible care.

Our Dental Packages

First Step : Grading

One of our skilled doctors will grade your pets mouth on a scale from 1-4. Once a grade is registered you are able to grab an exact estimate which is an all inclusive package!

Whats included?

1.  Pre-Anesthetic Bloodwork and CardioPet ECG :

Before a pet undergoes a dental procedure, it is essential to perform pre-anesthetic bloodwork and an ECG. This testing helps ensure the pet is healthy enough to undergo anesthesia and identifies any underlying health issues that could complicate the procedure.

2.  Scaling, grading, and polishing are crucial steps in a comprehensive pet dental cleaning process, ensuring your pet's teeth remain healthy and free from disease. Scaling involves removing plaque and tartar from the teeth using ultrasonic scalers and hand instruments. Grading assesses the severity of dental disease, grading helps determine the extent of dental problems and guides further treatment. Polishing polishing is used to remove minor stains and smooth the enamel, reducing the risk of future plaque buildup.

3. Dental X-Ray: full mouth radiographs are taken before and after extractions to confirm tooth health.

4. Extractions: Each bundle includes a certain number of extractions. These extractions will also include a local pain block if applicable.

5. Medications and E-Collar:  Post-procedure medications for pain and/or inflammation will be dispensed as determined by the DVM on the case.

6. Dental Report: At the end of your visit you will receive a dischragedental report detailing any extractions, grading, and a comprehensive plan for ongoing dental care.
